Asbestos Demolition Surveys for Nottingham Tramlink
Alverprise Limited undertook asbestos demolition and asbestos refurbishment surveys as part of the works to demolish structures (houses, shops, offices, bridges and factories) for the Nottingham Tramlink extensions in 2010 - 2014. These involved working with Total Reclaims Demolition as they planned the project to clear land ready for the installation and development of the infrastructure of a modern tram link system. There were a number of sites involved with over 40 locations being affected, the majority being demolished but some just altered to allow new track to be laid.
The client required the investigation of these locations to be undertaken in a programmed and planned manner, to suit when infrastructure works would be necessary and not all in one simple operation. Accordingly, the asbestos demolition surveys were programmed into a period over 18 months with some sites required specialist access equipment and tools and some requiring access and then re-sealing to prevent ingress from trespassers prior to the demolition. The planning for this operation included asbestos risk management and work risk assessment plans together with method statements and emergency planning for each site.
Each of the asbestos demolition surveys was undertaken in accordance with the Control of Asbestos Regulations, with individual survey reports produced for the contractor to provide competitive pricing for the asbestos removal in advance of the demolition works. Each report was prepared using in-house asbestos management reporting software supplied by a local Nottingham based computer software solutions company which allowed the contractor to review data gained from each site through an internet portal and thus reduce the timescales from surveying to demolition of each property. The database also allowed updates to be undertaken to provide revised asbestos survey reports where needed for those sites that were not being demolished and just altered to allow the Tramlink line to run through part of the site. These reports are still available to view on the database nearly 10 years after the surveys and relevant demolition / refurbishment has been undertaken.
